Paul GAUGLER   -   Tenor

Paul Gaugler graduated from the National Conservatory in Paris. He is an award-winner of the Vincenzo Bellini and Armel Opera competitions.

A Jugendlicher Heldentenor, he sang Der Tenor / Bacchus from Ariadne auf Naxos staged by André Engel (Royaumont), extracts from Siegfried in an adaptation of Wagner's Ring (Reims, Théâtre de l'Athénée in Paris), Der Brabantischer Edler from Lohengrin (Montpellier), Der Junger Diener from Elektra (Bordeaux), Don José from Carmen (Cluny Festival, Yaoundé and on tour), Hoffmann from Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Burgundy), Faust from La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz (Imperial Theatre in Compiègne and covering the role at the Glyndebourne Festival), Gounod’s Faust (Poznan, and extracts in concert at la Seine Musicale in Paris), the title role of Dante by Godard (Saint-Etienne) and his debut as Pollione from Norma (Chisinau, Moldavia).


He also sang Tamino from Die Zauberflöte (Cannes), Normanno from Lucia di Lammermoor (Bordeaux), Boris from Katja Kabanova (touring production in France, awarded Best Lyrical Production  by the Professional Critics Union in 2012), The Teacher from The Cunning Little Vixen (Massy, Besançon, Reims), the tenor soloist in a staged version of Janacek's The Diary of one who disappeared (Île-de-France Festival) and also Octavio from Campra's L'Europe Galante conducted by William Christie (Ambronay, Vichy, Besançon, San Sebastián) and Charles / Selim from Les Sacrifiés, a new piece by Thierry Pécou (Reims, Rouen, Massy), Victor from Guru by Laurent Petitgirard (Szczecin), Spakos from Cléopâtre by Massenet (Paris Salle Cortot) and The Messenger from Rubinstein's Demon (Bordeaux).


His concert repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (Saint-Etienne Orchestra), L'Enfance du Christ by Berlioz, Threni by Stravinsky under the baton of Sylvain Cambreling (Amphithéâtre Bastille).


During season 2020-2021, he sings Heinrich from Tannhäuser (Rouen), Harlekin / The Soldier in a French version of Der Kaiser von Atlantis (Aix-en-Provence), Lensky from Evgeny Onegin (Beauregard Festival) as well as several concerts.
