Sébastien GUÈZE - Tenor
Sébastien Guèze graduated from the Paris Conservatory and was awarded the Audience Prize and the Second Prize at the Operalia - Plácido Domingo Competition in 2006. He is leading eversince an international career, mostly singing the major roles of the French and Italian repertoire.
He made his debuts as Rodolfo from La Bohème (Athens, Venezia, Brussels, Geneva, Helsinki, Köln, Austin, Leeds, Bordeaux, Liège...) and sang Alfredo from La Traviata (Dresde, Warsaw, Brussels), Il Duca di Mantova from Rigoletto (Guadalajara, Mantova alongside Plácido Domingo), Nemorino from L'Elisir d'Amore (Sao Paulo), Pinkerton from Madama Butterfly (Avignon, Angers, Nantes), Maurizio from Adriana Lecouvreur (Saint-Etienne), Ruggero from La Rondine (touring production with Opera North) and Mario Cavaradossi from Tosca (Avignon).
In the French repertoire, he sang Hoffmann from Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Dresde, Köln, Essen, Freiburg, Bonn, Wiesbaden), Don José from Carmen (Geneva, Leipzig, Sevilla, Metz and on tour with Opera North), the title-role of Werther (Venezia, Metz, Massy), Des Grieux from Manon (Marseille, Vilnius), the title-role of Faust by Gounod (Wroclaw, Toulon, Reims, Pamplona, Omaha), Roméo from Roméo et Juliette (Amsterdam, Monterrey, Miami, Hong-Kong), Pelléas from Pelléas et Mélisande (Nice), Nadir from Les Pêcheurs de Perles (Strasbourg), Le Chevalier de la Force from Dialogues des Carmélites (Lyon), Cinna from La Vestale (Theater an der Wien) and Jean from Hérodiade by Massenet in Düsseldorf.
He understudied the role of Faust from La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Eager to revive lesser-known pieces from the French repertoire, he took part in Andromaque by Grétry, Le Songe d'une Nuite d'Eté by Ambroise Thomas, Le Roi d'Ys by Lalo, Salammbô by Reyer, Mireille by Gounod, Lodoïska by Cherubini, La Chartreuse de Parme by Sauguet. He sang the world premiere of Marius et Fanny by Vladimir Cosma, Un Amour en Guerre by Caroline Glory, Cyrano by David Di Chiera and L'Apocalypse d'Icare by Dominique de Williencourt.
He published an essay about the social-ecological issues in the operatic world: "BIOpéra - Quel futur pour l'opéra ?" - Editions Symétrie, France, 2021.
Sébastien Guèze was appointed Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
During season 2024-2025, he sings Des Grieux from Manon Lescaut by Auber in Torino and The Prince from Rusalka in Marseille.
