Trained as a pianist and vocal coach, Bertille Monsellier now dedicates herself to conducting, with a strong affinity for the operatic repertoire. After more than fifteen years working in French opera houses, she has been developing her conducting practice since 2023 in David Reiland's class at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, where she obtained a Master's degree in Orchestral Conducting.

Her conducting is fueled by solid stage experience and a close rapport with singers, whom she accompanies and prepares musically across a vast repertoire ranging from Mozart to Strauss, with a particular fondness for the great Romantics such as Puccini and Tchaikovsky. Attentive to the musicality of language, vocal dramaturgy, and collaborative work, she strives to build a vibrant conducting style that remains attuned to the stage.

 

As part of her studies, she has conducted major symphonic works at the helm of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and the Royal Conservatory of Liège Student Orchestra. Alongside her conducting activities, she teaches at the Paris Conservatoire.

 

Last season, she conducted Rusalka at the Fribourg Opera alongside Kaspar Zehnder. She was seen conducting Così fan tutte at the Vienna Opera Festival in 2025, and she assisted Paolo Arrivabeni on Aida at the Metz Opera.

 

This season, she will serve as assistant musical director for The Marriage of Figaro and The Merry Widow at the Metz Opera.
